Is BFSI Hiring Growing in 2026, and Who Is Leaving? What the Data Says
BFSI is the sector with the highest hiring intent in India in 2026, and almost half of its new jobs are now outside the big metros. But the same sector loses about one in four private bank employees every year, and far more at the frontline. If you hire for banks, insurers or NBFCs, the numbers say the same thing: finding people is only half the job, and keeping them is the other half.
Here is what the 2026 data shows, in plain terms.
Is BFSI hiring going up in 2026?
Yes. A hiring outlook by Taggd and the Confederation of Indian Industry puts overall hiring intent for 2026 at 11%, up from 9.75% in 2025. BFSI tops all sectors at 20% (Taggd and CII, November 2025).
Adecco India's BFSI report points the same way. It projects hiring growth of 8.7% in 2025-26, rising to 10% by 2030, with nearly 2.5 lakh permanent jobs added by 2030 (Adecco India, August 2025). Sales and relationship executives, digital product managers and credit risk analysts are the banking roles it names as most in demand. In wealth and insurance, it names financial planners, investment advisors and digital underwriters.
One thing to know before you celebrate: headcount is not growing evenly. Private banks employed 838,150 people in FY25, down 0.86% from 845,407 the year before, mainly because ICICI Bank's headcount fell 7.13%. Public sector banks added staff for the first time in five years, reaching 757,641 (Business Standard, December 2025).
Which cities are hiring the most?
Not just Mumbai and Bengaluru. Adecco India found that "nearly 48 per cent of new roles" in BFSI now come from tier II and III cities. Taggd and CII's outlook says tier 2 cities account for 32% of projected 2026 jobs across sectors, with tier 3 at 15%.
City | BFSI hiring growth | Source |
|---|---|---|
Indore, Coimbatore, Nagpur, Guwahati | 15% to 18% | Adecco India, 2025 |
Surat, Jaipur, Lucknow, Bhubaneswar | 11% to 13% | Adecco India, 2025 |
If you are hiring 50 or 100 frontline staff for a branch network, this changes where you source. It also changes who you look for.
Who is getting hired?
Two patterns stand out.
First, experience. Taggd and CII expect candidates with 6 to 15 years of experience to make up 55% of 2026 hires, up from 39% the year before. Mid-level people are in demand, which makes them expensive and slow to find.
Second, local skills. Adecco India says candidates with local-language skills and grassroots sales experience are 2.5 times more likely to be shortlisted, and they earn 10% to 15% more. For a branch in Indore or Nagpur, a candidate who speaks the customer's language and knows the town often beats a better-looking CV from outside.
Why do BFSI frontline hires leave so quickly?
The Reserve Bank of India's data puts average attrition in private sector banks at around 25% for FY2023-24. Frontline numbers are far higher. TeamLease, which manages more than 80,000 frontline BFSI employees, reported overall attrition of 103%. NBFCs were at 77% and insurers at 62% (TeamLease, via All Things Talent, February 2025). Loan sales teams lost 9% to 13% of staff every month through 2024.

Pay is part of it, and a small part can be enough. TeamLease's Krishnendu Chatterjee says junior staff often move "in search of a quick raise." With starting salaries around ₹15,000 a month, a ₹1,000 increase is enough to make someone switch.
The RBI's own reading goes deeper. Deputy Governor Swaminathan J said the numbers point to "deeper challenges" in banks' engagement and retention. The RBI has urged banks to invest in career development, mentorship and a supportive workplace.

What should hiring teams do with this?
Four things follow from the data.
Look beyond the metros. If nearly half of new roles are in tier II and III cities, your sourcing plan should be built there, not adapted from the metro playbook.
Value local candidates properly. A 10% to 15% premium for local language and grassroots experience is worth paying if those hires stay longer. Ask for their history, not only their degree.
Train before you deploy. The RBI itself points to onboarding and mentorship. A structured programme, such as the one we describe in train-and-hire in Indian banking, gives new hires a reason to stay past the first quarter.
Count the cost of replacing people, not just hiring them. A role that turns over twice a year costs you two rounds of sourcing, training and lost sales.
If you are hiring frontline BFSI staff at scale, our recruitment services cover sourcing and bulk closures, and our training and development programmes cover induction, train-and-hire and 90-day mentoring.
Frequently asked questions
Is BFSI a good sector to hire in during 2026?
Yes, from the employer's side the demand is strong, with BFSI at 20% hiring intent in the Taggd and CII outlook. But strong demand also means more competition for the same candidates, so retention matters as much as speed.
Are BFSI jobs moving to smaller cities?
Yes. Adecco India reports nearly 48% of new BFSI roles now come from tier II and III cities, with Indore, Coimbatore, Nagpur and Guwahati growing fastest.
What is the average attrition rate in Indian banks?
Around 25% in private sector banks for FY2023-24, according to the RBI. Frontline BFSI staff leave much faster: TeamLease reported 103% across its frontline workforce.
What roles are most in demand in BFSI?
In banking, sales and relationship executives, digital product managers and credit risk analysts. In wealth and insurance, financial planners, investment advisors and digital underwriters.
